A local chef is getting behind Hull Collegiate School’s (HCS) ground-breaking Safi Coffee initiative.

Matt Jacobs

Since launching in September 2017, over a ton of Safi Coffee has been sold and now one local chef has been using the beans to create his own recipes.  Matt Jacobs, who manages a Twitter page called ‘The Food Rhino’, has created a number of recipes using the delicious coffee beans.

Recently, Matt made a delicious tiramisu using Safi Coffee. He posted the recipe on his Instagram page which you find here @thefoodrhino.

Matt Jacobs, who trained as a chef in the Royal Navy, said:

‘’I absolutely love what Hull Collegiate School have done in producing Safi Coffee to sell across the UK to help children in Uganda to attend school. The coffee is made from one of the highest quality Arabica Beans, hence the delicious flavour. I have recently made a tiramisu using Safi Coffee which tastes fantastic, the flavours really came through. I plan on making more recipes using Safi Coffee.  I am so impressed with the dedication the pupils have in taking the sales forward to help as many children as possible.’’

Chris Wainman, Deputy Head of Hull Collegiate School and Team Leader of Safi Coffee, said:

It is great to see Safi Coffee gathering momentum in this way.  The pupils are thrilled that the beans are being used in recipes demonstrating what a fantastic product Safi Coffee is.  We are really pleased that the local community is supporting us and we can’t wait to see what other culinary delights Matt creates with the beans.

“Safi Coffee is a brilliant example of Hull Collegiate’scommitment to deliver an Education with Character.  This project has encouraged our pupils to be enterprising and creative and to have an awareness of the wider world.  We look forward to building on the success of this project and getting more pupils involved in Safi Coffee.”
